| dc.description.abstract | This book examines digitalisation and sustainable development in the tourism and hospitality sectors from theoretical, empirical, and policy perspectives. It shows that digitalisation technologies increasingly influence the products and services that tourism and hospitality enterprises prefer and offer globally. The prospects of new technologies to completely overhaul the tourism and hospitality industry can no longer be denied. New generations of tourists have different expectations and requirements in relation to today’s tourists. On the other hand, enterprises now offer tourism and hospitality products and services differently. The sharing economy and the experience economy strongly influence the creation of new business models in tourism. Tourism and hospitality enterprises can potentially benefit from this digital transformation. Enterprises that resist change risk being left behind. The book comprises contributions that generate theoretical insights, empirical findings, and evidence-based recommendations by focusing on emerging and forecasted technologies that are used in the tourism and hospitality industry, such as blockchain, robots, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and big data analytics, among others. This technology diffusion is studied from various angles, including topics that include Blockchain Technology: Drivers for and Barriers to Adoption (Organisational issues related to the adoption of blockchain technology in the business world; financial issues; strategic and technical issues); Big Data, Analytics and Ethical Considerations (Ethical issues and social responsibility as they relate to technology adoption; and the risks generated by rapid or radical technological adoption in tourism and hospitality enterprises regarding ethical data management | |
