The Emerging Gaming Sector in Zimbabwe:

(Services for Science and Education, 2025-02-25) Ngoma, P.; Moyo, G.; Gororo, G.; Nhliziyo, M.

This article discusses gaming as a potential financing mechanism. It explores the opportunities presented by the emerging gaming sector in addressing Zimbabwe’s development financing woes. The rise of the gaming industry is a global phenomenon propelled by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) both of which define the current period as a Digital Era. This digital era is characterized by technological developments such as Internet of Things, nanotechnologies, robotics, biotechnologies, blockchain technologies, 5 generation technologies, autonomous vehicles, AI and numerous others. In this new and still emerging age, daily life including work, business, shopping, learning, and leisure, has become inextricably linked to digital technologies. What is more relevant for the present analysis is the increasing penetration of mobile devices, expanding internet connectivity, and rising access to digital platforms. The article also explores several obstacles including regulatory constraints, lack of investor awareness, and inadequate technological infrastructure as major barriers to the growth of the gaming industry in Zimbabwe. Besides exploring the obstacles and opportunities, the article also proposes various ways that can be deployed in order to scale-out and scale-up the gaming industry in Zimbabwe. The proposed measures could possibly position the country as a competitive player in the regional and global gaming market.

Analysing the Effectiveness of Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (IGFTs) in Supporting Devolution in Zimbabwe:

(Scientific Research Publishing, 2025-05-27) Zwelinjani, Bhekilizwe; Mutemi, Tadiwa Noble; Moyo, Gorden; Guzura, Tobias

This study situates Matabeleland North Province (Mat North) as an exemplar for interrogating the efficacy of intergovernmental fiscal transfers (IGFTs) in advancing devolution within Zimbabwe. This study elucidates both the prospective dividends of enhanced governance and the multifaceted challenges stymieing the successful execution of devolution, offering critical insights into Zimbabwe's pursuit of sustainable development through fiscal decentralization. The interplay between theory and practice remains critical in shaping the future of governance in the province and beyond. As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with the complexities of devolving power, understanding the mechanisms and challenges associated with these transfers is vital for promoting effective devolution and improving local governance outcomes.

Exploring Public Trust in Zimbabwe Gold Backed Currency (ZIG)

(Scientific Research Publishing, 2025-03-26) Sibanda, Payton; Kuzakwacho, Portia; Moyo, Gorden; Nhliziyo, Mbongeni

Public trust is critical in ensuring confidence is gained and the currency is accepted. This study examines public trust and elements that lead to skepticism among the public regarding the introduced Zimbabwe Gold Currency (ZiG). The objective of the study is to explore factors influencing public trust in the ZiG among different socio-economic groups in Zimbabwe. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, to explore the public trust in the ZiG. The findings show that the populace has been very skeptical of the adoption of goldbacked currency. The ZiG’s expected circulation and acceptance seem to be deficient, which is indicative of a larger apprehension regarding the new currency’s dependability and effectiveness. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s difficulties in gaining public support, which is a prerequisite for the effective execution of any monetary policy, are underscored by the lack of trust and faith in the ZiG. The findings suggested that there is a need for economy-wide consultations and awareness-raising before making important economic policy decisions.

A Critical Analysis of the Impact of Remittances on Public Finance in Zimbabwe:

(Scientific Research Publishing, 2025-05-22) Sikhosana, Belinda; Moyo, Gorden; Mpofu, Senzile; Dube, Karren

This study examines the impact of remittances on public finance in Binga, Zimbabwe, using Tinde and Upper Dobola as case studies. The Theory of Remittances and Economic Development and the Dependency theory were used as the theoretical framework of the study. A qualitative case study research design was used. The study had a target population of 160 people. A non-probability, purposive sampling method was used to select a sample of 30 respondents. Interviews and focus group discussions were used to gather empirical data. Findings from the study reveal that remittances offer resilience in the face of economic shocks, reduce poverty and enhance public finance through supporting local development projects. The study recommends the need for capacity building of local communities, increasing the flow of remittances through formal channels, reducing transaction costs of remittances and encouraging spending in formal markets to increase tax revenue.

Global architecture of unfairness:

(Lupane State University, 2025) Moyo, Gorden

This article discusses the biases, controversies, contradictions, and the ‗shenanigans‘ of the international cred-it rating agencies in Africa. It focuses on the Big Three rating agencies namely Fitch Ratings, Moody‘s, and Standard & Poor‘s. It argues that the Big Three rating agencies are not neutral arbiters of financial, political and economic risks in Africa, as they purport to be. On the contrary, they are part of the global financial infrastructure of unfairness that has contributed toward the continued marginalisation, exclusion, financial subordination, and peripherisation of the African countries in the global financial economy. The article concludes by canvassing for the establishment of a Pan-African Credit Rating Agency that will come up with suitable methodologies, indicators, and rating processes that will be fair, credible, and relevant to the continent‘s historical, economical, and political contexts. By so doing, Africa will be able to delink itself from the tentacles of imperial credit rating agencies.
