Abstract: | This study assesses the impact of Gukurahundi on the development of secondary education in Lupane District during the period 1982-1987. Unstructured interviews were used to gather data for this research. The study establishes that Gukurahundi had negative impacts on the development of secondary education in Lupane District. This study argues that the Gukurahundi operation was an attempt by ZANU PF to destroy the opposition and establish a one party state and thereby apply its political ideology on the masses. Thisstudy therefore concludes that the current underdevelopment of Lupane can be attributed to the Gukurahundi conflict’s impact on secondary education from 1982-1987. The study recommends that affirmative action can be considered in favour of secondary education in Lupane so as to promote development in the district and put it on level terms with other districts which were not affected by Gukurahundi in development. |
